Is this the new normal?

September 24th, 2013 at 03:02 am

I work in a mid size office for a major corporation. One of my coworkers is getting married. The one and only person in the office invited to the wedding sent out a luncheon invitation to celebrate the coworker's upcoming wedding (at an expensive restaurant) and also asked for donations toward a wedding gift.

I really want to back out but politically I can't. I really wish people would stop this office nonsense.

More motivation to become financially independent Smile!

I am a full-time writer and work from a home office. However, some of my friends have office parties and restaurant meetings and parties a lot, thus it is a common workplace trend in my area.

I hear you! My husband seems to have a lunch nearly once a month for someone moving or retiring. Could they not do a pot luck? I think if one feels inclined to give a gift they should, no need to feel obligated.
